As Above, So Below

I’m so restless that I’m having trouble writing. The thing that’s making me restless is that I really want to be editing. I feel a strong need to move forward with what I’ve already begun. I know I’m not the only one feeling it. I’ve noticed that since the New Year, many people are anxious to make big changes in their lives. They’re hoping for new jobs, promotions, transfers, they want to take classes, send more query letters, do more promotion, start a blog, begin a new novel, move forward, make something happen. And many are feeling blocked because none of it is happening fast enough. So I wasn’t a bit surprised when I checked the ephemeris the other day and found Jupiter, planet of more, more, more forming a square aspect with Uranus, planet of change.

On one hand, this aspect, which is a ninety-degree angle between the planets, can coincide with surprising changes of fortune, sudden opportunities, and lucky wins – if they are activating the right planets in a person’s natal chart. For the rest of us, it can make us restless and impatient, and we make changes just for the sake of something, anything being different.

Uranus is the planet of rebellion, of liberty, freedom, and justice for all. The U.S. was founded on Uranian principles. Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin were astrologers. Bet you didn’t know that, did you? This square aspect is one of wanting more (Jupiter) freedom (Uranus) and we can go to some fairly big lengths to get it. Fed up with the status quo, making changes seems to be the only way to get ahead now, and we’re willing to shake things up a bit, or even a lot, just to get things moving again. We don’t want to be pressured into it, though, because being pressured into it means a lack of freedom to make the choices for ourselves.

On the other hand, we can get a lot more (Jupiter) than we bargain for. At times while this aspect is in effect, we might experience so many changes that we can’t begin to anticipate what might happen next (Uranus represents surprises, too).

The key to dealing with this aspect is to stop and consider whether or not the changes will work before we jump in headfirst. Sometimes, change simply makes the situation worse. On February 2, Mars, the planet of action, will form an aspect to Uranus, planet of change. The logjam will disperse, and new opportunities for change will present themselves. Until then, we need to bear with it. Hang in there. If you must change something, make it a small change unlikely to have long-term, life-altering effects.

There’s another significant aspect forming now, too, one that becomes complete much sooner, and is even more difficult to deal with. This one includes Mars, too. It’s about to form a conjunction with Pluto. A conjunction means they are 0 degrees apart. If Pluto could be seen with the naked eye, they would appear to be in a straight line with each other … you know the line – the shortest distance between two points. Depending on where in the world you live, this is going to take place on the 12th or 13th of this month.

Mars is the penis planet. It represents everything we think of as being in a man’s domain – ego energy, action, ambition, sex, sports, competition, assertiveness, anger, war, weapons, tools, bloodshed, cuts, and burns. Yes, of course, women experience these things, too. Everyone has Mars energy.

Pluto is the planet of the soul, but it’s also the planet of power, and I’m not talking AA batteries here. It’s atomic, volcanic, and violent. When the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Mars and Pluto were in a square aspect with each other. When the Columbia exploded, Mars and Pluto were conjunct. When the Titanic left port on her maiden voyage, Mars and Pluto were conjunct (I know what you’re wondering. What about the World Trade Center? Mars had very recently passed the conjunction to Pluto. Saturn – loss and grief - was in aspect with Pluto for that one). There are many more examples of disasters that have occurred while Mars and Pluto were in aspect to each other, but I’m not trying to predict disasters here. I’m trying to explain what it means to Average Joe.

While under the influence of these two, we want to call the shots. We want to run things and do them our own way, and we want other people to do them our way, too. There are going to be a lot of ego conflicts under this aspect, not only emanating from us, but attracting others of like mind. There will be major power struggles. It’s a very ambitious aspect. It’s relentless, remorseless, vengeful, vindictive, brutal, sadistic, cutthroat, cruel, cold-blooded and merciless. It’s ego energy taken to extremes. We want to have power over others. Problem is, they want to have power over us, too. Some of us are just not aggressive by nature (you Libra people know who you are), but even you might be surprised how much you enjoy having and wielding power under this aspect. It’s okay to have power. It’s not okay to abuse it. There’s nothing altruistic about the influence of these planets. It’s used for selfish gain, pure and simple. Of course, not everyone can have the upper hand. Some people are going to win, and some are going to lose. The best we can hope for if we find ourselves in a power struggle is to try to convince our opponents that we’re working toward the same goal. It’s also a really good idea to stay away from the local Shop & Rob, and avoid Voodoo Village during this time.

The aspect does have advantages. It’s great if you have some heavy construction work needing to be done, yanno, like if you need to tear down a structure the size of the Great Wall of China or something. We’ll be able to work very hard toward our goals, and accomplish difficult tasks, or we can wreak total havoc if we don’t think about these energies while we’re doing it. Good luck. I hope we all come out of it unscathed.

  2. Uranus is my astrological planet. Whatever it means good or bad, there it is.
I must say some odd things have happened in my life. Whether it has anything to do with which planets have lined up with Uranus-I don't know.

  3. I found this very interesting...I love how I learn something new everyday! 'So far,' 2007 is starting off well for me...I probably should knock on wood though, lol!

Funny you mentioned staying away from the voodoo village...I was SERIOUSLY wanting to hex someone VERY BADLY a few months ago, to the point of vicious revenge...I'm wondering of some planets were in alignment for me that brought out such darkness? In retrospect, I ended up FORGIVING that person after all was said and done. Very interesting indeed!

I wish I understood what your were saying, but I've never been into the planets and stars. Probably lots of good stuff there.

  5. Well, this explains a lot!! Perfect timing in your explanation, too, babe.

Mega thanks. Be glad I don't have your address. I'd be mailing you a book as thanks.

  6. One thing I've wondered about is this - would astrology be the same if we lived on Mars?

If a Mars colony was ever founded, would astrologers there have to 'reset' their charts to account for the positions of planets relative to Mars, and would Earth count as an influence on those people?

Of course, we're a good few years away from any of that mattering at all, but it's interesting to think about.

There's also the question of the first colonists who live, die and are buried on Mars. Are they going to be the first ghosts there, I wonder, or will they come 'home'?

I've never heard of an Earthly ghost recounting trips to other planets, although in theory there's nothing to stop them travelling that far. Maybe none have ever thought of trying. It could save us a lot of bother if they did.

Funnily enough this tallies with a Tarot reading I did a couple of days ago. Not being too happy with the rather sharp message the Tarot was giving, I sought a gentle second opinion from the I-Ching and got an even sharper one. Essentially sit on my butt, do nothing major and keep my big mouth shut.:)

I've decided to follow that advice for once. Roll on February!

Been lurking for a while, hope I don't regret sticking my head out. :)

  8. I'm very restless, too. I find that dancing, whether there's music or not, helps. Other than that, I may just hide out 'til the planets are aligned more in my favor.

  9. Lots and lots of people are experiencing this now, Cheryl, but I did notice you're among them. I think RX COM is a great name for the next Crapometer. You should suggest it.

I'm Aquarius, too, Roxan. Other people think we're a little odd. I could write pages and pages on what it means to be ruled by Uranus.

Good for you, Juju! Forgiveness is a great thing, whether giving or receiving.

Maybe if you come back and read this on February 4th, Steve, you'll be able to think back on this month in your life and relate the two. Astrology can be confusing to people who know nothing about it. It helps if you skip the part about the planets, and just read the part about what will happen.

Glad to help, Susan. Tell me the name of the book, and I'll enjoy it vicariously.

Those are great questions, Rom. Astrologers on Mars would have to recalibrate. I imagine Earth would influence them, but it would take them quite a while to figure out exactly how. They'd have to observe for a long time, then test their theories, like any scientist. Completely disregarding the influence of Earth because I have no idea what it might bring about, I imagine the people of Mars would become quite a bit more masculine and aggressive than they are here (ever seen any of the Aliens movies with Sigourney Weaver, and noticed how the women in them are much less feminine?). The conditions would undoubtedly be rough for a long time, and it could easily be a matter of kill or be killed for survival. As for the ghosts, I'll leave that to you to decide. That's your area of expertise. There are theories that the other planets are already occupied by beings in other dimensions that we simply can't detect, much like it's rare to detect a ghost. I may have an interesting article saved you might like to read, but I'll have to see if I can dig it up. Lately, I've been unable to find a lot of things I know I saved.

Hello, tattieheid. I'm glad you decided to join in. I'm not very good with runes, but I read Tarot for a number of years. I like Tarot a lot, but find astrology better at pinpointing exact times when an event might take place. Good luck with keeping your "big mouth" shut. I'm afraid that's another thing I'm not very good at.

Hey, SJ. Dancing is a good way to disperse Martian energy. It's best when we can channel Mars into constructive use, because we can't completely muzzle it. It doesn't take kindly to being told, "no." It will express itself one way or another. Better to let it out through dance than say, a car accident, or serious injury.

    Snort.

Early on, when I first began studying astrology, I made the decision not to pronounce it as "your anus," and always say "you ran us," instead - for that very reason. It's hard to take it seriously when you're laughing about butthole jokes.

  13. I don’t Know much about astrology other than what Me reads in the horoscopes but here’s me thought on the subject.
Star stuff: it’s what we all be made of and although some say that our destinies be controlled by them Me hopes that there may be a time when we takes control of ourselves. When the day shines upon us we are exposed and hide, but the darkness not only allow the constellations to guide us it also reveals the star stuff of which we are composed.

  14. That's good, Littlebird. Like death and taxes, change is always certain.

Scary Monster, don't read horoscopes in the paper. They're crap. Complete, total, and utter crap. And don't worry, we have free will. But there's no point in rowing against the tide.
