Menu Foods Class Action Update

This is the law firm I'm going with because they actually got back to me. I've already spoken with two very nice women named Adrienne and Isabel. If you aren't represented yet, why don't you get in touch with them?

  2. Hi, Val. Although I don't believe Max was fed poisoned food, I did lose him in this same time frame and really, really, really sympathize with you re. Catfish and Sneezy. I'm very proud of you for doing this, even though I know your time is so very limited now. Keep up the good work and keep setting a great example for pet owners everywhere. ;o)

  4. How is Sneezy doing?

  5. Thanks Steve and Aaron. Gee willikers, Aaron, you're always so proud of me for everything, you make me feel fifteen again. :-)

Hi Rain, she's feeling a little better. Thanks for asking. She's picked up some really strange habits she never had before, and I don't know what to make of them. I'm worried about her blood pressure, too. E told me to watch her eyes, and if they seem dilated, it's a sign of high blood pressure, brought on by the strain on her kidneys, I think. It can cause her retinas to detach, and lead to blindness. Her eyes are bigger than normal, so I'm watching her very closely and wondering if they train seeing eye dogs for cats because I cannot afford to take her back to the vet right now. Not only do I still owe him for treating her, but I want to find a new vet, and I simply have not been able to do so, yet. I swear, if it's not one thing, it's another. I'm going to stop by your blog and see how life is treating you these days.

  6. I hope this class action suit doesn't take too long to settle because that will cover the costs of the vet's bill and then some - but whatever they need to fix this fast - there are many pet owners who have ill animals, and probably many unreported deaths from this food poisoning - which means it will take a long time.

Either way, since there is a class action suit against the Menu Foods, it seems the vets will be a little understanding that receiving payment is based on this suit - (just my thoughts on that) - I know they need to be paid for services rendered but still - it costs as much if not more to have animals treated than humans -

Hope your cat doesn't develop any more porblems but they look to be inevitable. - Praying for you and yours - E :)

  7. I am glad that Sneezy survived, but worried about her eyes. I understand about high vet bills. I hope you can successfully sue the ones responsible for this misery.
Our local veterinary office has a cat mascot who got sick from tainted food. With a team of vets watching him he is okay, but needs to watched over like your Sneezy.

SW, I made my first video or should say took an old home movie, cut it, posted it to You Tube, and now it's on my blog. Not very pretty, but lots of memories. Not as good as the ones you make.

  10. Elizabeth, I don't think so. First, my vet literally made me beg him to treat Sneezy because I didn't have that kind of money on hand to pay him. So if any of you are wondering why I'm not sounding all that grateful to him, maybe that will give you a clue. I had to promise to give him all my paychecks until it's paid. You have no idea how dearly it's costing me in other ways. No idea.

The lawsuit could take years, and it's unknown if we will get even a dime more than our vet bills. There is no "pain and suffering" for animals in the law. There's nothing that I know of to cover the mounting bills of trying to keep Sneezy in decent health. That seems to be my own problem to deal with.
And not my only one as some of you will soon discover, although I can't talk about it, so please don't ask.

I appreciate the sympathy from y'all. This has been truly hard, both emotionally and financially, and I'm really amazed at the nonchlance of some people who have told me "Well, if you'd had a job all this time, you wouldn't be in this mess, would you?" ... and then turn around and ask me to write something for them (for free) "because we're friends." WTF???

On the other hand, there's another person who doesn't even know me, who so very graciously stepped forward to help me out with the second jam I'm in, and I can never express enough gratitude to that dear soul.

That's okay - someday I will get it all straightened out, and when I have money again, I'll remember which was which.

Rain, my best wishes to your vet's kitty. I wonder what they were feeding her?

Thank you, Erica. I just want you to know that ever since I saw the picture of you that we put in the video, I've thought, "I like her! I'll bet she's cool."

Steve, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

  11. I'm glad Sneezy's doing better, Lesia, but hate to hear about all the stuff you're going through. Hang in there, kid. I know it's tough.

On another note, everyone please take note that there are now DRY foods being recalled. A couple of Hill's dry cat and dog foods are affected. Also, they're now saying that it wasn't rat poison that contaminated the wheat gluten but melamine, which is used in manufacturing plastics. I just wish somebody would figure out WHAT the problem is and what to do about it.

  12. Thanks, SJ. I went to my vet’s office to give him some more money today. The office assistant printed out my receipt and told me to be sure to hang onto it because “They’re worth gold now.” She’s the same person who argued with me about the Hill’s Science Diet food before I asked her to have the vet call me. He did, and I had words with him, too. When I pointed out to him that it was made by Menu Foods, and not only did I not trust it, I wasn’t about to keep giving money to the company that killed Catfish and poisoned Sneezy, he got shitty with me. I told him that it could be poisoned, too, and who would know because the pets to whom it’s being prescribed are already sick, so if they died, it would only be attributed to the previous food. All he would say was that it hadn’t been recalled, but the tone and volume of his voice suggested I was out of my mind. When I asked how many pets eat that food, he replied, “Millions!”

I know I shouldn’t be this way, but it gave me immense satisfaction to point to that food still sitting on their shelves for sale and tell the office assistant that some of it is being recalled now. She asked me which ones. I shrugged and said, “Look it up on the web. I tried to tell y’all.” It's not up to me to do their job for them. I take my pets to the vet because he's supposed to know more about them than I do, but I'm finding it's the other way around. What kind of vet isn't even keeping up with the news that affects his patients? I'll tell you: not my kind!

  13. Lord Almighty, you need a new vet. If he's uninformed and argumentative and apparently not very sympathetic, I'd lose him. And if he's still prescribing Hill's, he needs to check the list. Some of the prescription Hill's foods are on it. (Alpo wet has also now been added.) I think I'd continue mailing him checks 'til he's paid off and then find a new vet to take care of your animals.

  14. Dang woman,

Time to get a vet who is knowledgeable and one who knows that pets are family and when one goes down it is a killer for the owners. You need to bump him in the street and not pay him any more - tell him when the class action suit is filed and finished, he'll receive his payment.

Have the lawyers advised you on keeping him as a vet or to keep paying him? If he's not doing his job and not keeping up with the discoveries that are coming out, he needs to be taken to the vetinarian association (not sure what the medical association for vets is) and he needs to be put on file as being incompetent (although from what I do know, it is harder to get into vetinarian school than it is to become a regular MD - the waiting list is long - but still no vet, a man who has taken an oath to help all animals should be so uncaring (afterall, it's his job to treat the animals brought to him - who are pet owners babies (many of whom have no other "children"))

I say put him on the list of getting paid when the law suit is finished and let him deal with his business losses because he obviously doesn't want to be doing his job - he's supposed to be working for the pet owners and the animals -

Okay stepping off my soapbox for now - sorry didn't mean to rag on him - but he sounds heartless for a supposed "animal lover" - he should at least be informed of what is recalled and what isn't and who makes what foods.

    I'm praying for you and yours - E :)

  15. haha - Serena posted right before I did but I'm saying refuse to pay him off - he has done nothing but be a pain in the butt, uncaring and unwilling to get educated about what is going and isn't even willing to help pet owners deal with the loss of their animals due to a screw up on the end of the food. - oh well - so goes life - hope he has pets who get poisoned from him feeding the recalled food because he was too ignorant to do anything about it - (slaps typist for saying ugly things about someone doesn't know - sorry) - E :)

  16. Hi SJ, yes; that's exactly what I intend to do.

Elysabeth, the class action lawyers and I have not discussed this situation with the vet. It's not their problem. Their only job is to take the case to court and settle it.

I don't have the time to take him to the board. I don't believe anything like that really works anyway. Those kind of people always side with their own. I would put him on the list to be paid later, but 1. The damage is done. Unfortunately, I still haven't mastered the ability to turn back time. 2. I gave my word. No matter what it costs me, I have to follow through.

SW, I've been meaning to ask. How is your husband doing?

  18. Hey, Steve. The surgery healed, and he's back at work. Thanks for asking.

  19. Glad to hear that your husband and Sneezy are doing well.

I wish to thank you for sending the North vs South piece to me. SJ and I posted it today (4/3).

  20. Thanks, Hale, and it's my pleasure. Wish I had written it. I've mostly lost my sense of humor these days. If you see it anywhere, would you please send it home?

Thoughts and prayers are still with you and yours. Don't know of anything else I can offer but hugggssss. Just look in your heart for your humor it's there, just hidden from your lose and pain right now. Remember to feed the good and pass the evil. It's the best revenge I've found. :)))) Write or talk
